Only two students from each class were selected and we need to get our parents’ permission. Chi: So did your parents give you permission? Van: Yes, they did. They felt proud that I was selected. How about yours? Chi: My parents said no. They said Da Nang is too far away, and I’ll miss the TOEFL test already arranged for next month. But I really want to go. 1
2. Van: I understand. It’s the chance of a lifetime But I have an idea. You can take the test another time. Did you tell your parents about that? Chi: I did. The real problem is that I’ve never been away from home, and they are worried. What should I do? Van: Let’s talk to our teacher. I think she can persuade your parents. Chi: Good idea. Linda: You know, Dad, my best friend, Carol, cheated in the exams and I don’t know how to stop her from cheating. Linda’s father: Very bad. Did you find out the reasons why she cheated in the exams? Linda: Yes, she didn’t revise the lessons because she spent too much time playing computer games the nights before. Linda’s father: I see. I think you should remind her of focusing more on studying. You should also help her revise the lessons and prepare for the next exams. Linda: Good idea. Thanks for your advice, Dad. Sample conversation 2: John’s best friend: Hi, John. You look upset. What’s up? John: You know, my classmates made fun of me. John’s best friend: Why? About what did they make fun of you? John: I got bad marks err three marks for my last physics test and two marks for math test. John’s best friend: I see. I think you should try to study harder, do all the homework the teachers have given you. You should also ask the teachers for help when you have a problem.
